Basic Ways You Can Conserve Water

With so many devices, appliances, and even automobiles getting attention on how to be more friendly towards the environment it is easy to foget that there is one resource that we have the power to preserve. When your city does a good job maintaining your water supply it is easy to take that running water from your faucets for granted. But saving water is important, and often when it isn’t used by those who have easy access to water it can be redistributed to those who need it. If you pay your own water bill, conserving water can also make an impact on your expenses and if you rent it can help keep rents lower as well.

When you conserve water, you make the most of every drop. Often people will let the water run without thinking about it, or maybe they just haven’t thought of an alternative way to use water. The bathroom is one place where there is a lot of water going down the drain that could be used for other things. The shower is one of the first places where water is wasted. To begin with, you can avoid taking very long showers. Another thing you can do is to put a bucket off in the corner of your shower. You can use the water you collect for watering plants, or even pour it down the toilet in place of flushing. While brushing your teeth or washing your hands you can turn off the water while brushing or lathering your hands. If you need to run water to achieve a comfortable temperature, consider catching the excess in a bowl to water plants.

The kichen is the other main room to conserve water. Filling a water pitcher and keeping it in the refrigerator helps conserve water by eliminating the need to run tthe water in order to get it cold. You can also rinse dishes in a basin of water, rather than in running water. You can also catch water used for boiling pasta or potatoes and use for plants.

The list goes on. Anytime you can catch water before it goes down the drain and reuse it, it is a good thing.
